Delete Your Account
Last updated: July 31, 2026
This page explains how to delete your account and associated data for Nexo — Shared Expense Tracker (com.nexoexpenses.app), operated by Khaw Jyh Boon.
There are two ways to do it. The first is immediate and needs no help from us. The second exists for anyone who has already uninstalled the app or cannot sign in.
1. Delete from inside the app
This is the fastest route, and it takes effect straight away.
- Open Nexo and go to the Settings tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Tap Delete account
- Read the confirmation notice — the confirm button stays locked for a few seconds so the warning cannot be dismissed by accident
- Confirm
Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out. There is no recovery step and no grace period: once confirmed, the data described below is gone and cannot be restored by us or by you.
2. Request deletion by email
If you have uninstalled the app, lost access to your device, or cannot sign in, email us instead:
- Send to: [email protected]
- Subject: Delete my account
- Send from the email address on the account. This is how we verify the request is yours. If you cannot send from that address, tell us in the message and we will ask you for other proof before deleting anything.
We action verified requests within 30 days, and in practice much sooner. You will get a confirmation once it is done. We do not ask you to reinstall the app, and we never charge for this.
3. What is deleted
Both routes run the same deletion process. It permanently removes:
- Your login and authentication credentials — the email address is released, so it can be used to sign up again later
- Your profile: display name and any profile photo you uploaded
- Every personal expense you recorded, with its notes, categories and tags
- Your wallets and payment methods, and their balances
- Your budgets, your custom categories, and your keyword-detection rules
- Your recurring records
- Your notification tokens, so the app can no longer reach your device
- Any shared space where you were the only member, along with everything inside it
- Settlement records involving you
4. What is kept, and why
Two things deliberately survive deletion. Both are listed here rather than buried, because neither is obvious.
a. Expenses inside a space you shared with someone else
If you shared a space with another person, the expenses in it stay visible to the members who remain. Deleting them would silently rewrite someone else's financial history and leave their balances wrong.
Those records are re-attributed to a placeholder member that keeps only the display name you used in that space. Your account, email address, profile photo and every other piece of personal data are removed. The placeholder is not an account, cannot be signed into, and is not linked to you.
If you would rather those records were removed too, that is a decision for the remaining members of the space — ask them to delete the expenses, or to delete the space, before you delete your account.
b. Campaign pledge records
If you backed the Nexo launch campaign, the record of that transaction is retained for up to 5 years for tax, accounting and dispute-resolution purposes, which we are legally required to do. Your account link is severed, so the record no longer points back to a Nexo user. It is kept in minimised form and is not used for anything else.
5. How long it takes
| Stage | Timing |
|---|---|
| Account and access removed | Immediately on confirming in the app |
| Email requests actioned | Within 30 days of verification |
| Residual copies purged | Within 30 days |
| Encrypted backups rotated out | Within 90 days |
6. Before you go — export your data
Deletion is permanent and we cannot bring anything back afterwards. If you want a copy of your records, export them first: Settings → Cloud & data → Export data, which gives you a CSV or PDF of your expenses. Do this before deleting, not after.
7. Questions
Anything unclear, or a request that does not fit either route above — email [email protected] and a person will answer.
